ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Methodist baseball team's ten-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Monarchs fell, 9-7 and 2-1 (10 INN), to host N.C. Wesleyan.
Despite coming within two runs in the top of the seventh, 9-7, MU (16-9, 6-3 USAS) fell, 9-7, in game two of a doubleheader that was postponed until Saturday afternoon.
Rodriguez finished 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored and Dockery was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two scored runs. Nick Zieniuk was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Will May was 1-for-3 with one scored run.
Ross Leggett (3-3) took the loss after tossing the first 0.2 innings and allowing seven runs on six hts before Thomas Dean entered for the next 2.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Greg Johnson pitched the next 3.0 innings and allowed one hit and Aaron O'Neil closed the final 2.0 innings and allowed two hits with three strikeouts.
Justin DiSanto finished 2-for-3 for N.C. Wesleyan (20-8, 11-4 USAS) with an RBI and two runs scored and Kaelan Jacobs was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Relief pitcher Andrew Franklin (2-0) took the win, allowing three runs on two hits in 1.2 innings pitched.
In the final game of the series, Methodist fell, 2-1, in 10 innings.
Methodist grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Davis Cass sent a sacrifice fly to left field to score Stephen Nalls, who walked.
N.C. Wesleyan even the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the third when James Lovett tripled to right field to plate Ciro Norzagaray.
After six innings of scoreless play for either team, extra innings were forced. Methodist was unable to score in the visitor-half of the inning, but the host Battlin' Bishops won on a walk-off single down the left-field line by Norzagaray to capture the series, two games to one.
Cass finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Lucas Scott was 2-for-3 with a walk.
Seth Beard (2-2) was given the loss after tossing the final 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Tyler Hardee tossed the first 6.0 innings and gave up one run and just four hits with three strikeouts.
Norzagary was 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored run and Tony Sanchez was 2-for-4.
Joseph Borgerding earned the win, pitching the final 1.0 innings and allowed one hit with one strikeouts. N.C. Wesleyan's starting pitcher, T.J. Wilkie, pitched the all 9.0 innings of regular play and gave up just one run on six hits with 10 strikeouts.
Methodist will continue road play on Mar. 29 as it travels to Newport News, Va. to take on host Christopher Newport at 3:00 pm.
