LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Methodist softball team split a pair of conference-play games on Saturday afternoon to host LaGrange College, falling 2-0 in the first game before winning, 2-1, in extra innings in game two.
In game one, the Panthers (13-12, 6-8 USAS) broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring the only two runs of the game on an error by the Monarchs (6-24, 2-10 USAS) and a sacrifice fly by Maegan Harrison.
Dani Gravett (8-4) earned the win for the home team, holding the Green and Gold to just five hits with two strikeouts.
Emily Hester (1-8) was handed the loss, after tossing the first 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Christine Bowman pitched the final inning and allowed no runs or hits.
Methodist was the first to score in the nightcap, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. With two outs, Heather Williams doubled down the left-field line and a single by Kelsey Harrington through the left side plated her.
LaGrange evened things out, 1-1, in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to right field by Harrison to score Brooke Turner, who doubled to left.
After a scoreless remainder of regular play, extra innings were forced and after Kirsten Emrich was put on second, Kristen Bailly advanced her to third with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly by Alanna Anderson scored her for the go-ahead and eventual winning run.
Williams finished 2-for-4 with one run scored and Harrington was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Anderson and Nicole Heinrich were both 1-for-3.
Heinrich (3-9) earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings in relief and allowing no runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Bowman tossed the first 4.0 innings and allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Methodist will play again tomorrow at Huntingdon beginning at 11:00 am.
