Guilford Holds Off Methodist, 47-32

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Xavier Adams threw one touchdown pass and rushed for one, while E'Montie Dears added two scores on the ground as part of a 32-point second half as Methodist fell, 47-32, at Guilford College on Saturday evening.

The Quakers (2-0) raced out to a 24-point lead by halftime (24-0), thanks to a pair of rushing touchdowns by De'Eric Bell. Guilford's lead expanded to 38-6 following a 91-yard touchdown run by Bell at the end of the third quarter before MU erupted for 26 points in the fourth quarter.

Following a bad snap on an MU punt attempt, the Quakers were poised to add to their lead after gaining possession at the MU eight yard line. However, Bell fumbled three plays later and Chris Wimby picked up the loose ball and scampered 100 yards the other way for an MU score. The two-point conversion was no good and Guilford added a long play of its own as Karl Roberts recovered fumble and went the other way for two points.

Adams and Dears added rushing touchdowns for the Monarchs before Bell struck again to make it 47-26. The scoring was closed out when Adams hit Damarco Smith from six yards out on the game's final play.
