Methodist Falls at Meredith, 2-1

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss against Meredith in USA South Athletic Conference action on Sunday evening.

With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 3-5 overall with a 3-2 league mark. Meanwhile, the Avenging Angels improve to 4-4 on the year and are also 3-2 in conference play.

Meredith got on the board first after Jessica Wallace tallied her fifth goal of the season with assists from Meredith McCarty and Hannah Lawrence in the 23rd minute. This came minutes after MU defenders were able to kick away a shot on goal from the Avenging Angels. The score held until the end of the half with Meredith holding onto a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Avenging Angels extended the lead at the 68:55 mark when Hannah Elvington posted her third goal of the season from close range, 2-0. Toward the end of the half, MU fought back and scored after Jasmine Newman scored her sixth goal of the season and fourth goal of the week on a free kick in the 83rd minute. The Monarchs were unable to score again as Meredith held on for the 2-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Meaghan O'Meara (3-5) took the loss after recorded four saves on the day. Jaisa Loch (4-3) earned the win after registering three saves on Sunday.

Meredith held an 11-10 advantage in shots and also had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Monarchs return to action Saturday, Oct. 1, as they return home to face William Peace at 2 pm.
