Kaneya Chambers and
Jalisia Campbell combined to score 14 of MU's final 18 points as the Methodist women's basketball team rallied for a 56-48 win over Meredith on Sunday afternoon at the Riddle Center.

Chambers scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter and Campbell added six in the final 10 minutes to help MU (5-14, 3-5 USA South) erase a four-point deficit in the final period. The Monarchs closed the game on a 16-4 run. Campbell finished with 18 points and six rebounds,
Christian Sanders added 11 points and seven boards, and
Shelly McDonald added 11 points.

The Avenging Angels were led by Jessi Hayes' 18 points and 11 rebounds. Amy Rhoney chipped in 12 points and 13 boards. As a team, Meredith was held to 31.6 percent shooting (18-57) from the field and 40.0 percent shooting from the line (8-20).

The Monarchs trailed 33-28 with 4:55 left in the third quarter when McDonald went to floor in a scary collision. A 15-minute delay followed and McDonald required paramedic assistance to leave the Riddle Center.

Following the stoppage, a revitalized Monarch team closed the period on a 10-5 run to enter the final 10 minutes of play tied a 38-38.

Rhoney and Hayes combined for six quick points to open the fourth stanza as Meredith regained a 44-40 lead with seven minutes left to play. After a Meredith timeout, Campbell hit a short jumper for MU, and Chambers followed with a triple to give MU a 45-44 lead with just under six minutes to play.

Hayes countered with a jumper for Meredith to make it 46-45, but Chambers hit another three from the same area on the court for a 48-46 lead. Kirstie King tied the game at 48-48 for the Avenging Angels with 4:05 to play, but Campbell gave MU the lead (50-48) for good with a layup at the 3:54 mark.

The Methodist defense hounded the Avenging Angels into missing each of their final nine shots from the field as Campbell added another layup and Sanders contributed four points, including a layup as time expired to put an exclamation point on the win.

The Monarchs shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the field as a team and committed a season-low 12 turnovers. The Avenging Angels turned the ball over 16 times but held a 43-41 edge on the glass.

Methodist will entertain N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday beginning at 7:30 pm.
