MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Methodist football team fell to Maryville, 35-14, in USA South action on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots (4-3, 2-2 USA South) scored on their first possession of the game on a three-yard run by Elijah Hairston before adding another score on a pass to Caine Adamson from 17 yards out.

MC held a 13-0 lead until the Monarchs (1-6, 1-3) got on the board via a 35-yard pass completion from
Steve Keoni to
Dylan Cummings, 13-7. The play was set up by a 35-yard scamper from Keoni.

 The Scots added a pair of field goals of 20 and 45 yards to take a 16-7 lead into halftime.

The second half started with Pierre Chadwick returning a kickoff 95 yard for a score as MC added to its lead. Another touchdown by Maryville pushed the score to 32-7 in favor of the Scots.

The Monarchs capped a six-play, 80-yard drive as
Xzavier McNeil pulled in a 28-yard pass from Keoni with 9:23 left in the fourth quarter. In the drive, Keoni completed all three of his pass attempts to three different receivers as McNeil tallied his second touchdown reception of the season.

MC responded with a six-play 45-yard drive that was capped by a 38-yard field goal by Ian Hubbs as the lead was extended to 35-14, which held until the final.

As a team, the Monarchs outgained the Scots as they finished with 395 yards of total offense with 140 coming on the ground. Meanwhile, Maryville compiled 394 yard of total offense with 235 rushing yards.

For a third consecutive week, Cummings posted a career-high in receiving yards. He ended Saturday with 146 yards on 10 catches and a touchdown. Keoni ended the day 19 of 38 for 255 yards and also ran for 58 yards. He threw two touchdown passes and also a pair of interceptions.
E'Montie Dears paced the Monarchs with 70 rushing yards. Defensively,
Demontre Wright led the way with 11 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and 0.5 sacks.
Carlos McCracken and
Mark Stanford each added seven stops, while Stanford registered 2.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks and McCracken broke up two passes.
Nathan Jones also picked off one pass.

For the Scots, Hairston finished with 82 yards on the ground with a touchdown, while Elijah Rachell added 54 yards on six touches. Kris Castillo ran nine times for 42 yards and also threw a 56 yard pass. Caine Adamson completed six passes for 103 yards and also recorded a 43-yard rush. Fran Marshall registered six total tackles, including 1.5 for loss.

Methodist returns to action this Saturday for its annual Homecoming game. The Monarchs face off against Ferrum at Monarch Stadium beginning at 1 pm.
