Men's Soccer Moves Past LaGrange, 4-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's soccer team scored three times in the second half on its way to a 4-0 victory against LaGrange in USA South action at the Monarch Soccerplex on Sunday.
 
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 12-4-1 on the season with an 8-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Panthers drop to 4-10-2 overall behind a 2-6-2 conference record.
 
MU got on the board first in the 32nd minute as Honore Nshimiye buried a pass from Lawson Lamm, 1-0. The mark held through halftime before Isaac Sanchez collected a pass from Trevor Hendricks and notched his fifth goal of the year at the 51:28 mark.
 
Doug Thom recorded his fifth goal of the season in the 65th minute as he took a ball in the box before making a move and scoring on the Panther goalkeeper, 3-0. MU nearly registered another goal in the 68th minute after a pair of shots by Monarch players were kicked away by the Panther defense in front of an open cage. The final score of the contest came off a corner kick from Nick Bryant that found the head of Tyler Beaman on the far post, 4-0.
 
The Monarchs outshot the Panthers 26-6 and also earned six corner kicks compared to the Panthers' two.
 
Goalkeeper Jonathan Moore started in net and made one save before giving way to Josh Helms for the final 20 minutes. Bonner Brooks made six saves but conceded four goals in the loss.
 
Methodist returns to action as it closes out its regular season against first-place N.C. Wesleyan at the Monarch Soccerplex with first touch scheduled for 7 pm.
