FAYETTEVILE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team defeated Ferrum, 1-0, in the first round of the USA South Tournament at the Monarch Soccerplex on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the No. 4 seed in the East, the Monarchs improve to 6-10 on the season and will now play Salem in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the No. 5 seed, Ferrum, finishes its season at 8-9 overall.
Camryn Amaker registered the game-winning goal in the 57th minute as she took a pass from
Haley Bowles and
Alexa Smith and netted a shot from in the box, 1-0.
In the first half, both teams exchanged scoring chances, but neither team could break the draw.
Goalkeeper
Emily Benton made six saves in all 90 minutes, while Taylor Dodson stopped seven shots and conceded one goal.
MU outshot FC 18-9, while edging the Panthers in corner kicks, 3-2.
Methodist will play the quarterfinal round at the top seed in the East, Salem, on Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 3 pm.
