FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half as it defeated Averett, 6-0, at the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday night.

With the win, the Monarchs move to 4-7-0 on the year with a 3-1 mark in league action. Meanwhile, the Cougars drop to 2-6-2 overall behind an 0-3 conference record.

MU started the scoring at the 8:16 mark as
Capri Clark recorded her 10th goal of the season after turning passed a defender and striking a shot past the goalkeeper. Clark is the first member of the program to score at least 10 goals in a season since 2011. In the 17th minute,
Emily Borel added to the lead with a goal after moving around a defender and scoring from inside the box, 2-0.

The Monarchs scored three goals in three minutes beginning with
Alexa Smith who took a ground cross from
Anna Voigt in the 69th minute. Voigt followed that with her own goal as the Monarchs assumed a 4-0 lead. Smith recorded her second score of the night at the 70:26 mark with an assist from
Amber Conrad.
Miranda Gay finished the scoring with a goal in the 81st minute after
Angelica Santos' shot was pushed aside, 6-0.

Emily Benton made two saves in all 90 minutes in the victory. Bailee Brown made eight stops in the loss.

MU outshot AU 22-3, while holding an advantage in corner kicks 6-0.

Methodist returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11, against Pfeiffer at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 6 pm.
