BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater College used a run of six unanswered goals to pull out an 8-3 win over the Methodist women's lacrosse team on Saturday evening at the Jopson Athletic Complex.

The Monarchs (1-1) opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest when
Sareena Coleman scored unassisted for a 1-0 lead. From there, BC (1-0) scored the final five goals of the first half and the opening goal of the second period for a 6-1 lead with 24:16 left to play.

Anna O'Hara opened the run with an unassisted tally at the 26:52 mark of the first half, and Sarah Yashinskie scored just over two minutes later to make it 2-1. Kristen Stark's goal at 20:36 made it 3-1. Following over 12 minutes of scoreless play, the Eagles added a pair of goals in the final 7:25 of the first half for a 5-1 lead at the break, and Yashinskie capped the run with an unassisted goal at the 24:16 mark of the second half.

Lindsey Earles got the Monarchs back on the scoreboard with 19:28 to play to make it 6-2. BC added two more markers and MU's
Madison Ronelli capped the scoring with 8:49 on the clock.

The Eagles held a 22-17 edge in shots, but a 15-9 advantage in shots on goal. Methodist turned the ball over 21 times to Bridgewater's 17. BC had 17 ground balls to 16 for the Monarchs and MU won seven of 13 draw controls.

Emily Ewin started in the cage for MU and took the loss (1-1), making five saves and allowing eight goals.
Jannelle Gant played the final 30 minutes and did not allow a goal with two saves. Rachel Gruber played all 60 minutes for the Eaglese and made six saves with three goals allowed to earn the win (1-0).

Monti Hendrix and
Sarena Pillow each had four ground balls for the Monarchs, and Hendrix added six draw controls.
Sarah Ewin came up with three caused turnovers.

Stark, Yashinskie and Claire Palermo-Re each scored twice for BC. Brittney Brown had four ground balls and four draw controls, while Yashinskie added three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday at Marymount beginning at 1:00 pm.
