Marymount Drops MU Women's Lacrosse, 19-6

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision at Marymount University on Sunday afternoon.
 
Methodist (1-2) grabbed an early 2-0 less than four minutes into the contest. Renee Burt opened the scoring at the 27:33 mark, and Emily Brennen scored 36 seconds later to make it 2-0 before the Saints (1-0) scored seven consecutive goals in a seven-minute span to take a 7-2 lead with 19:22 left in the first half.
 
Abby Wescott scored two goals and assisted on one more during the Saints' run, and Kellen Cannon added a pair of goals. Kaelyn Holland scored for MU to make it 7-3 at the 18:46 mark, but the Saints ripped off five more unanswered goals to assume a 13-3 lead with just over six minutes to play in the opening half.
 
Madison Ronelli scored for the Monarchs with 2:47 left in the first half for a 13-4 game at the break.
 
For the game, Marymount out shot MU, 27-14, and won 18 of 25 draw controls. Turnovers were even at 16 a side, and MU had 14 ground balls to 12 for Marymount.
 
Jannelle Gant started in the cage for the Monarchs and took the loss, allowing 13 goals with two saves. Emily Ewin played the second half in goal and made three saves with six goals allowed. Holly Reik started for Marymount and played the first 54:35. She made seven saves with five goals allowed to pick up the win.
 
Burt and Holland each scored two goals for the Monarchs, and Brennen and Ronelli finished with one apiece. Gant led MU with four ground balls, and Brennen had two. Holland also added a pair of caused turnovers.
 
For Marymount, Wescott totaled six points on four goals and two assists, and Bridgette Stacom scored four times. Natalie Tinkham added two goals and two assists, and Cannon wound up with four goals. Liah Agouras had three ground balls, and Bridget Odom came up with five draw controls.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they host Oglethorpe at 1:00 pm.
