FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Kaelyn Holland recorded six goals and five other players scored at least two goals as the Methodist women's lacrosse team defeated Oglethorpe 21-1 at Monarch Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs (2-2) started the scoring less than 30 seconds into the contest when
Sareena Coleman beat the goalie on an assist by
Lindsay Brennan. Two minutes later, MU scored twice in a 16 second period as Holland and Brennan each tallied a goal. The Monarchs eventually pulled out to a 13-0 lead by halftime.
After the break, Coleman scored another goal before
Lindsey Earles recorded a goal on a free position shot. The Monarchs extended their lead to 18-0 before the Stormy Petrels (1-3) got on the board on a goal from Juliana Altman, 17-1. MU tallied four more goals before ending the game with a 21-1 victory
Holland led the home side with six goals, while Brennan posted four points with three goals and an assist. Earles,
Emily Brennen,
Renee Burt and Coleman each tallied two goals, while Brennen and Burt notched a pair of assists.
Tori Manahan,
Monti Hendrix and
Bianca Terenzi also scored on Saturday. Manahan and Pillow each recorded three ground balls, while Hendrix led with four draw controls.
For Oglethorpe, Altman recorded the only goal and led with five ground balls in the loss. Madison Goss and Jillian Czaplinski each had two draw controls.
Methodist returns to action on Monday, Feb. 27, at Greensboro beginning at 3:30 pm.
