Methodist Topples Greensboro, 8-6

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Emily Brennen scored three goals to lead the Methodist women's lacrosse team to an 8-6 win at Greensboro on Monday afternoon.
 
The Monarchs (3-2, 1-0 USA South) raced out to a 6-1 lead at halftime, and Brennen's third goal of the contest proved to be the game winner.
 
Tied at 1-1 with 19:22 left in the first half, the Monarchs used at 5-0 spurt to close the first half. Bianca Terenzi started the run with a goal at 18:12, and Lindsay Brennan scored off a feed from Tori Manahan at 17:46 to make it 3-1. Terenzi fed Manahan at 15:40 to make it 4-1, and Emily Brennen and Monti Hendrix scored in the final seven minutes to push the MU lead to 6-1.
 
Methodist scored two of the first three goals of the second half to assume an 8-2 lead with 18:55 to play. Following over 10 minutes of scoreless play, Greensboro scored twice in a 30-second span to pull within 8-4 with 8:20 on the clock. Natalie Richey added a pair of goals at 7:44 and 6:25 to account for the final score.
 
Jannelle Gant earned the win in the cage for MU. She played all 60:00 and made nine saves with six goals allowed. Kianna Anderson also made nine saves with eight goals allowed in picking up the loss.
 
The Monarchs outshot Greensboro, 25-20, and committed two fewer turnovers (17-15). Methodist held the Pride to just 4 of 12 on clears while converting 11 of 15. Greensboro won 12 draw controls to MU's four.
 
Renee Burt, Manahan, Sareena Coleman and Terenzi all had two points for MU. Manahan also had a pair of ground balls and two caused turnovers. Terenzi had four ground balls and Coleman added two caused turnovers.
 
Methodist is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan at noon.
