FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team used a 7-0 scoring run to open the second half en route to a 15-10 over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (4-2) trailed 7-6 at the half, but opened the second period with seven unanswered goals over the first 16:59 to take a 13-7 lead.
Emily Brennen scored three of her five goals during the run and
Bianca Terenzi added a pair of goals, including a man-down goal that capped the spurt.

Ashley Winslow and Avery Frangelli scored back-to-back goals for the Marlins (0-3) to pull within 13-9 with 2:16 to play, but a goal from
Lindsay Brennan and
Emily Brennen's final tally pushed MU's lead to 15-9 with under 30 seconds to play.

In the first half, the Monarchs took a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest on Brennen's first goal and a tally from
Monti Hendrix, before the Marlins struck three times, including two goals from Becca Winslow, to take a 3-2 lead by the 16:32 mark. Terenzi broke ties of 4-4 and 5-5 with a pair of goals before the Marlins scored the final two goals of the first half for the aforementioned 7-6 lead at the break.

In all, MU outshot VWC, 34-17, and picked up 35 ground balls to 20 for the Marlins. Virginia Wesleyan won 14 draw controls to 12 for the Monarchs.

Jannelle Gant had a second consecutive solid game in the cage, making six saves in 60 minutes to earn the win. Ally Bodicky made 12 saves for the Marlins in taking the loss.

Brennen finished with six points on five goals and one assist. Terenzi had four goals and one assist, and
Renee Burt added a goal and three assists. Hendrix finished with three goals, one assist, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Tori Manahan added six ground balls and two caused turnovers, and
Kaelyn Holland and
Sarena Pillow each had five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

For Virginia Wesleyan, Avery Frangelli had four goals and one assist, while Ashley Winslow finished with two goals, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Liza Holford added an assist, four ground balls and three draw controls.

The Monarchs will now travel to Port Charlotte, Florida where they will take on Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 pm.
