MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Methodist baseball team was defeated in 11 innings by Lancaster Bible, 10-9, in a nonconference game played at the Ripken Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs are now 11-10 on the year, while the Chargers improve to 3-3 overall.

The Monarchs opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Matthias Carter led off the contest with a triple to center field and scored on a single to left field by Brown, 1-0. The Green and Gold loaded the bases before drawing three-consecutive walks, including bases loaded walks to
Davis Cass and
Alex Kachler, 3-0. MU added on to the lead in the following inning when
Lance Fuerstenberg drew a lead-off walk and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Lucas Scott. Brown also scored on a balk, 5-0.

After a pitching change to start the bottom of the third inning, the Chargers posted four runs on four hits to work the deficit down to just one (5-4). The Monarchs added on another run in the fourth after Carter led off with a double down the right field line before crossing home plate to extend the lead to 6-4. Â In the fifth inning the Green and Gold extended its lead to four runs after scoring two runs on four hits, including an RBI single by
Will May, 8-4.

Lancaster Bible slowly cut into the lead by scoring one run in the home half of the sixth inning before adding another run in the seventh frame. In the eighth inning, the Chargers tied the game on an RBI single by JJ Sanchez,

The two sides entered the 11th inning in an 8-8 tie before MU took to the plate. Scott drew a walk and moved to second on a throwing error. He then came around to score on an RBI-double to right field by
Pete Wildeboer to give the Monarchs a 9-8 lead. In the home half of the frame, Justin Taylor hit an RBI single to tie the game. The Monarchs chose to intentionally walk a batter to load the bases before Michael Hill hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Taylor to score from third for the win, 10-9.

Madison Cook (1-2) was saddled with the loss after tossing 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed two runs on three hits and also walked two batters.
Nick Norton got the start and threw 2.0 innings on the hill, striking out two, with no base runners allowed. Nate Staffieri (1-0) received the victory after pitching the 11th inning. He yielded one unearned run on two hits. Zach Bonick started on the mound and was rattled for four runs on two hits with five walks in 1.1 innings of work.

Carter finished the day 3 for 6 at the plate with two runs scored and was a home run short of the cycle. Brown and Wildeboer each recorded two hits, while Scott drew three walks, scored two runs and had an RBI. Cass also drew four walks as MU totaled 11 walks against the Chargers.
