Quakers Stifle MU Men's Lacrosse, 9-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-5 decision at Guilford on Friday evening.
 
The loss snapped a seven-game win streak for the Monarchs and put the Green and Gold at 7-2 on the season. The Quakers improved to 4-3 with the win.
 
Guilford outscored Methodist, 4-2 in the fourth quarter to turn what had been a 5-3 lead into the final four-goal margin.
 
The Quakers opened the scoring in the fourth quarter when Brennan Sweeney found Aaron Parrish for a goal at the 11:40 mark to make it 6-3. GC needed just 77 seconds to make it 7-3 when Sweeney scored off a feed from Zach Berkowitz with 10:23 left to play.
 
Nick Damiano scored at 9:23 to make it 8-3, before the Monarchs got a man-up goal from Trevor Dickinson to cut its deficit to 8-4 with six minutes showing on the clock. Damiano tallied another goal for the Quakers before Jay Robinson netted an unassisted goal for MU to once again make it a four-goal game at 9-5 with 3:30 showing.
 
The Monarchs scored the first goal of the game, courtesy of Andrew Ruskey just 90 seconds into the contest, before the Quakers answered with a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead at the 12:40 mark of the second quarter. Jake Smerka tied the game at 2-2 for MU with his goal at the 11:01 mark, but to more GC goals gave the hosts at 4-2 lead at the break.
 
Guilford out shot MU, 45-33, and won 35 ground balls to 21 for the Monarchs. The Quakers were also and efficient 21 of 24 clearing the ball, while MU was just 16 of 24.
 
Jackson Bingham made 11 saves against nine goals allowed for the Monarchs in the cage. His counterpart, Parker Styles, made 10 saves with five goals allowed.
 
Robinson and Ruskey each finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Monarch offense. Chris Lombardi had a goal and added two ground balls.
 
Sweeney led GC with three points on a goal and two assists, while Damiano and Parrish each scored twice. Will Forrestal scored once and added three caused turnovers with a pair of ground balls.
 
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they host Greensboro at 4:00 pm.
