FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 5-4 win over Huntingdon and earn a split of a doubleheader on Sunday at Price Field.

The Monarchs are now 5-11 in league play and 8-24 overall. Huntingdon stands at 10-22 overall and 9-7 in the USA South.

Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the seventh inning in game two, MU's rally began with a leadoff single by
Chloe Hespeler, who was replaced on the bases by
Kristin Emrich.
Heidi Foreman followed with walk to give MU two on with nobody out.

Allyson Aycock hit a ground to short, but Alex Teague's flip to third in an effort to force Emrich was dropped by Maggie Porter for an error and loaded the bases.
Hannah Key came to bat for MU as a pinch hitter and hit a chopper to shortstop. Teague came up throwing home, but her throw was well wide of the plate and allowed both Emrich and Foreman to score the tying and winning runs.

The rally made a winner of Hespeler (5-8), who allowed four runs (3 ER) on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 7.0 innings. She was also 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Samantha Jacobs was 1 for 3 with a walk and a run, and
Emily Hester was 1 for 3 with a walk, a run and one RBI.

Lindsey Selph took the loss (1-5) allowing five runs (3 ER) on six hits and seven walks with eight strikeouts. Samara Miller, MacKenzie Smelley and Selph each had two base hits for the Hawks.

In the opener, Huntingdon won 9-0 in five innings, scoring all nine runs on eight hits in the first inning. Raina Lanier picked up the win, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out six.
Aly Thomas took the loss, allowing five runs (4 ER) on four hits. She was pulled before recording an out.
Lindsey Champion pitched the final 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on five hits and two walk with one strikeout.

Porter was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs for HC, Smelley drove in two runs and Miller was 2 for 2 with a walk and scored twice.

Methodist is back in action on Saturday at Greensboro beginning at 2:00 pm.
