GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Greensboro on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs dropped the first game 5-2 before falling in game two 11-4.

With the results, the Monarchs are now 8-26 on the season with a 5-13 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Pride improve to 20-14 overall behind a 12-8 record in league action.

Methodist got on the board first in game one after
Savannah Dunn drew a walk. She advanced on a base hit by
Samantha Jacobs and scored on an RBI single by
Chloe Hespeler, 1-0. The Monarchs added another run in the fifth inning. Jacobs opened the inning with a double down the left field line.
Emily Hester followed with a single to left before
Allyson Aycock scored Jacobs with an RBI single to right, 2-0. The Pride responded by scoring five runs on two hits and an error in the home half of the frame to take a 5-2 lead, which held to the end.

Aly Thomas was charged with the loss after pitching 4.1 innings and yielding five runs (4 ER) on five hits with four walks.
Emily Hester tossed the remaining 1.2 innings and did not allow a hit. Maddy Wetherholt tossed a complete game and scattered seven hits. She allowed two runs and struck out nine.

Jacobs went 4 for 4 at the plate in game one with a run scored. Hester, Hespeler and Aycock each tallied a hit in the loss.

In the second contest, Greensboro scored first on a pair of RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead. The Monarchs responded with two runs in the following inning.
Carleigh Haywood drove in
Jessica Orwick with an infield single to cut the lead to 2-1. Dunn followed with a single to left-center field to tie the game as
Heidi Foreman crossed home plate, 2-2.

Greensboro rallied for four runs on five hits in the following half inning as the Pride took a 6-2 lead. Jacobs led off the third inning with an inside-the-park home run to work the lead down to 6-3, but the Pride posted a five-run inning on four hits to push the score to 11-3. The Monarchs posted one more run on an RBI single by Aycock that scored Hester, but fell 11-4.

Hespeler was saddled with the loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits in just 1.0 inning in the circle. Haley Tickle pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits in the win. Wetherholt finished the game in 2.2 scoreless innings of work to record a save.

Haywood, Foreman and Orwick each recorded two hits in the nightcap as MU tallied 11 hits.

Methodist returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader at William Peace beginning at 2 pm.
