FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team bounced back after losing the first game of its weekend series with a 4-1 victory against Ferrum at Armstrong-Shelley Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Monarchs move to 9-6 overall behind a 1-1 conference record. Meanwhile, the Panthers drop to 6-5 on the year and are also 1-1 in league play.

In the first inning, MU got on the board after a one-out triple to center field by
Brennen Brown. He crossed home plate two pitches later on a sacrifice fly by
Davis Cass, 1-0. The Monarchs added on to the lead in the bottom of the third when
Matthias Carter earned a two-out walk and came around to score on Brown's second triple of the afternoon, 2-0. The Green and Gold tallied another run in the home half of the fourth after
Tyler Hardee drew a walk. With the bases loaded,
Tucker Criswell delivered a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Hardee to score from third, 3-0.

The Panthers cut into the lead in the top of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with one out. After a strikeout, Lane Deaver delivered an RBI single to left field that scored one runner, but the runner on second was out at the plate on a throw by
Pete Wildeboer, 3-1. The Monarchs recorded another insurance run in the seventh inning when Criswell scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Cass, 4-1.

Tyler Beyel (1-0) picked up his first collegiate victory after tossing 5.2 innings and allowing just one run (earned) on five hits. He also struck out five batters and walked five, as well.
Noah Dawson pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief and allowed just one base runner.

Dillon Weaver (0-2) was saddled with the loss after throwing 6.0 innings and yielding all four runs (earned) on three hits with three walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts. Jared Talley closed out the game and scattered two hits in 2.0 scoreless innings.

Brown reached base four times after going 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of triples, a walk and was hit by a pitch. He also recorded an RBI and scored one run. Cass tallied two RBI, while Carter, Criswell and Hardee also each scored one run in the win.

Methodist closes its weekend series with Ferrum tomorrow, March 5, at Armstrong-Shelley Field with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm.
