Monarchs Ground Hawks, 17-1, in Women's Lacrosse

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team soared to a 17-1 win over Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.

Playing on senior day, the Monarchs (6-6, 3-1 USA South) outshot the Hawks (2-10, 1-3) by a margin of 31-6 and scored the game's first 10 goals in winning their second straight.

Tori Manahan put MU on the board with a goal at the 26:49 mark to open the scoring. Sareena Coleman, Madison Ronelli and Kaelyn Holland all added unassisted markers by the 16:11 mark as MU's lead swelled to 4-0.

Leading 7-0 late in the first half, MU scored two goals in the final 21 seconds. Ronelli scored following a yellow card to HC's Madison Rackley, and after quickly winning the draw control, Monti Hendrix made it 9-0 with a goal 10 seconds before the first half horn sounded.

Coleman made it 10-0, and triggered the running clock, eight minutes into the second half, and following a goal by HC's Carolyn Smith at the 21:12 mark, the Monarchs closed the game on a 7-0 run.

All three seniors scored for MU, including Bianca Terenzi's goal of a feed from fellow Coleman with just 51 seconds to play.

Jannelle Gant picked up the win in the cage, making one save and not allowing a goal in 30 minutes. Molly O'Hara played the final 30 minutes and gave up one goal. Alyssa Alvarado made eight saves for the Hawks.

Seven different MU players registered multi-goal games, led by three from Ronelli. Coleman and Hendrix each scored twice with an assist. Hendrix added three draw controls, and three ground balls, while Ronelli had four draw controls and Emily Brennen added four ground balls.

The Monarchs are back home tomorrow against LaGrange beginning at 1:00 pm.
