FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --
Chris Lombardi scored his 100th career point and
Kyle Clarkson scored four straight goals to open the fourth quarter as the Methodist men's lacrosse team improved to 11-2 on the season with a 16-13 win over Ferrum on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
Â
Lombardi became the second player in MU history, joining
Jake Smerka who accomplished the feat earlier this season, to reach 100 career points when he scored the Monarchs' last goal of the game with 3:12 to play.
Â
Clarkson, who now stands at 98 career points in just two seasons after transferring to MU, scored four goals, including three in a 2:07 stretch, and assisted on a fifth to open the fourth period and turn what had been a 10-10 game into a 15-10 lead for the Green and Gold with 7:26 remaining.
Â
After Ferrum's Kyle Lister had tied the game at 10-10 with just nine seconds to play in the third period, Clarkson gave MU the lead for good when he scored off a feed from
Jay Robinson 48 seconds into the fourth. Clarkson made it 12-10 49 seconds later, and at the 12:05 mark he made it 13-10 with another unassisted goal.
Â
Lombardi fed Clarkson for a goal at 7:41, and MU's scoring barrage came to a close as Clarkson found
Jake Smerka for a goal at 7:26 for a 15-10 lead.
Â
The Panthers scored three of the game's final four goals, including one in a 6-on-3 situation with three Monarchs in the penalty box.
Â
The game was tied, 5-5, at halftime before MU opened up an 8-5 lead in the third behind a pair of goals from
Tyson Haith and one from
Trevor Dickinson. Ferrum responded with four goals of its own to surge ahead 9-8 by the 5:23 mark, but went back in front 10-9, getting goals from
AJ Mejia and Robinson.
Â
Jackson Bingham earned the win in goal for the Monarchs, making 10 saves on the day. Koby McMahon made 10 saves for FC as the Monarchs out shot Ferrum 46-40. Methodist had 42 ground balls to 34 for the Panthers and MU had a slim 17-15 edge in faceoffs won.
Â

Ben Click scored twice. Dan Richards came up with five caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls, while
