Monarchs Stumble at Stevenson in Women's Soccer, 2-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Methodist women's soccer team opened its 2017 season with a 2-0 loss against Stevenson at Mustang Stadium on Friday afternoon.
 
With the result, the Monarchs drop to 0-1 to start the year, while the Mustangs move to 1-0 for the season.
 
The scoring started in the 14th minute as Kellen Wittman took a pass from Sam Hooker and chipped the goalkeeper, 1-0. The Mustangs notched another goal before the end of the half at the 39:07 mark when Gabrielle Arters netted her first collegiate goal, unassisted, 2-0.
 
MU had one of its best scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second period when Capri Clark hit the crossbar with a shot from inside the box, which was one of her four shots on goal. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half as the Mustangs held on for a 2-0 victory.
 
Meaghan O'Meara (0-1) started in net for the Monarchs and allowed one goal before Maggie Hunt entered for the final 74:23 and made one save. Tiffany McKee (1-0) played all 90 minutes and recorded nine saves.
 
The Monarchs held an 11-9 advantage in shots, while both teams earned three corner kicks.
 
Methodist returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 2, at Goucher beginning at 4 pm.
