TOWSON, Md. -- After trailing by two goals late in regulation, the Methodist women's soccer team forced overtime before falling 3-2 to Goucher in a hard-fought contest at Beldon Field on Saturday evening.

With the result, the Monarchs drop to 0-2 overall, while the Gophers improved to 1-0-1 after playing to a scoreless draw on Friday.

In the first minutes of the contest, GC scored first at the 3:51 mark when Theresa Antkowiak-Tassone was able to beat the keeper for her first goal of the season, 1-0. The Monarch offense posted eight shots in the first half, including five on goal but went into halftime trailing 1-0.

As seen in the first half of the contest, the Gophers scored nearly three minutes into the period after Isabel Suazo collected a ball that was struck off the goalpost and put her team up 2-0 in the 49th minute. Despite trailing by two goals, MU continued to pressure on offense before eventually finally getting on the board when
Capri Clark registered her first goal of the season at the 81:01 mark, 2-1. Moments later, Clark struck again for her second goal of the game and tied the contest at the 88:56 mark. Seconds later, Clark had another scoring chance on a shot that was deflected out of play that gave MU a corner kick that ended regulation with the score tied at 2-2.

In the overtime period, the Monarchs recorded a pair of shots from
Aiden Sherry and
Ally Nagel and also earned a corner kick in the first 90 seconds of the extra frame. Goucher took advantage of a foul on the Methodist goalkeeper inside the box and Christina Yarrish netted the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 95th minute.

Clare Witt (0-1) faced nine shots and pushed aside six in all 94:43, while Christina Charikofsky (1-0-1) also stayed in net for the entire game and made eight saves.

Methodist outshot Goucher, 18-14, while also holding a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

For the Monarchs, Clark recorded four shots on target for a second-straight day, while
Jasmine Newman also posted two shots on net.

Methodist returns to action Friday, Sept. 8, against Virginia Wesleyan in a neutral-site match up set to begin at 5 pm.
