NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist women's soccer team fell to Christopher Newport, 3-1, in nonconference action on Sunday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs are now 0-4-0 on the season, while the Captains, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships last season and have a win over the No. 5 Trinity this season, moved to 4-0-1 overall.

CNU got on the board first in the 25th minute when Maddie Cochran notched her second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Gabby Gillis, 1-0. The score was the only of the first half as the Captains took a 1-0 lead into the recess.

In the second half, Cochran scored her second goal of the afternoon at the 48:58 mark after taking a cross from Keiley McCarthy and hitting an open net, 2-0. The Monarchs got one score back after
Camryn Amaker recorded her first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute during a scrum in the box, 2-1. Prior to the score,
Alexa Smith got in a shot and Amaker was able to bury a rebound. The Captains sealed a win when Riley Cook posted her fourth goal of the season in the 64th minute, 3-1.

Emily Benton (0-1) pushed aside eight shots in all 90 minutes during her first collegiate start in goal. Carly Magilo faced five shots and made five saves to pick up her fourth win of the season.

CNU recorded 32 shots, including 19 in the second half, to outshot the Monarchs who had eight shots. The Captains also held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
