Jasmine Newman recorded a goal and an assist as the Methodist women's soccer team defeated St. Andrews 4-2 on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Monarchs improve to 1-4 on the season, while the Knights also moved to 1-4 overall.

Newman put MU on the board at the 15:28 mark for her second score of the season, 1-0. Minutes later, SAU tied the game after a goal from Tatiana Kendzulak with an assist by Aiyanna Woods-Clark, 1-1. In the 27th minute,
Aiden Sherry registered her first collegiate goal, unassisted, to give MU a 2-1 lead at halftime.

After the recess, the Knights tied the game when Madi Castro took a pass from Woods-Clark and beat the goalkeeper at the 50:09 mark. The tie held until the 61:20 mark when
Capri Clark tallied her third goal of the season on an assist by Newman to put the Monarchs up 3-2.
Kaylee Kraus added her first goal of the season in the 74th minute to seal a 4-2 victory.

Emily Benton pushed aside two of the four shots she faced to earn her first win of the season in all 90 minutes on the field. Rachel Widdicks made 14 saved and allowed four goals in all 90 minutes.

The Monarchs held a 28-5 advantage in shots, while also earning all six corner kicks in the match.

Methodist returns to action for its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 17, against Bridgewater at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 2 pm.
