FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 contest to Bridgewater at the Monarch Soccerplex on Sunday afternoon.

With the result, the Monarchs are now 1-5 on the season, while the Eagles move to 5-1-1 after winning their fourth straight match.

BC scored first at the 1:59 mark when Keri Rager went one-on-one with the goalkeeper before beating her to the right side, 1-0. MU tied the game when
Aiden Sherry took a pass from
Capri Clark in the 11th minute, 1-1. The Monarchs best chance was on a penalty kick late in the period on a foul inside the box, but the shot was pushed away by the BC goalkeeper. The two sides went to break with a tied score at 1-1.

After halftime, the Eagles scored quickly as Anna Sobus took a misplayed ball in the 47th minute. Sobus again netted a goal at the 52:32 mark with an assist from Sarah Brennan who played a long pass from midfield into the box. Minutes later, Rager added her second goal of the game after playing a rebound on a shot that struck the crossbar. The Monarchs got one goal back at the 61:17 mark as
Kaylee Kraus placed a header off a corner kick from
Haley Bowles, 4-2. Sobus added a third goal late in the contest as the Eagles held on for a 5-2 win.

Emily Benton made 10 saves in all 90 minutes, while Hayley Talbott stymied five of the seven shots she faced.

BC outshot MU, 23-14, while the Monarchs held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. MU was given two yellow cards, while the two sides combined for 17 fouls on the day.

Methodist returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Monarch Soccerplex against Randolph-Macon beginning at 5 pm.
