Harris Sets Assist Record as MU Volleyball Splits

SALEM, Va. -- Maggie Harris became the program's all-time leader in assists on Friday afternoon as the Methodist volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day off the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke College.
 
The Monarchs opened play with a 3-1 win over Randolph (25-17, 25-27, 26-24, 25-8) before falling to Bridgewater 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-23) to close out the first day.
 
Harris entered the day needing 59 assists to become the program's all-time leader and posted 44 in the win over Randolph before notching 19 in the loss to the Eagles. Her career total now stands at 3,390 assists, surpassing the previous mark of 3,386 of Theresa Dwenger '03.
 
In the win over the WildCats, the Monarchs (4-3) limited Randolph to a team hitting percentage of just .029 while hitting .218 as a team with three players notching at least 12 kills in the match. Megan Andrews and Ashley Beardsley each had 13 kills for MU, and Cassidy Hayes added 12 with a hitting percentage of .414. Andrews also added 13 digs for a double-double to go with five service aces.
 
Harris added 15 digs, while Annabelle Ronelli chipped in a team-high 16 digs and added three service aces.
 
Against Bridgewater, MU was limited to a -.009 hitting percentage as a team, while the Eagles hit .209. Brittany Ter Meer led the team with eight kills and added two blocks. Andrews added five kills and 12 digs, and Harris had 11 digs to go with her 19 assists. Ronelli had 15 digs and Beardsley added 12.
 
The Monarchs are back at it on Saturday when it faces Sewanee at 9 am followed by a 1 pm match against Hollins.
