FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Methodist's Troynell Reese scored a career-high 28 points in a 106-85 loss to Pfeiffer on Wednesday evening at the March F. Riddle Center.
 
The Falcons (12-2) knocked down 14 three pointers in the game and forced MU (13-4) into a season-high 34 turnovers using a full-court press and playing at a frenetic pace. Reese was 12 of 18 from the field and added eight rebounds in eclipsing the 20-point threshold for the second time in the last three games.
 
The Monarchs opened the contest with a pair of quick buckets, but the Falcons used their pressing defense and pace on offense to reel off a 15-3 run to take a 17-7 lead on Marcus Sawyers' layup at the 11:37 mark. Six straight points by the Green & Gold pulled MU within four at 17-13 by the 10:34 mark, but Pfeiffer answered with an 11-3 burst for a 28-17 lead on Eric Ambrosio's triple just over three minutes later. The Falcons would eventually take a 12-point lead (45-33) into the break.
 
The Monarchs hung around in the second half, getting back-to-back triples from Reese to make it 55-45 with 16:45 to play, however, the Falcons forced four turnovers and a pair of missed shots over MU's next eight possessions to inch out to a 69-49 advantage by the 13:26 mark.
 
Methodist managed to pull within 16 just before the 12-minute media timeout, but could pull no closer the rest of the contest.
 
As a team, MU shot 46.0 percent (29-63), including 61.8 percent (21-34) in the second half. Pfeiffer shot 44.7 percent (38-85) as a team and made 14 three pointers to four for the Monarchs. MU was 23 of 26 at the free throw line, including a perfect 11 for 11 showing from Bryan Rouse, and the Green & Gold also held a 49-34 edge on the glass.
 
In addition to his 28 points, Reese added eight rebounds. Davion Ayabarreno finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Rouse chipped in 21 points. Jackson Whitley added seven points and 10 rebounds. Rae Hall contributed 10 points and four assists.
 
Pfeiffer was led by Josh Calhoun's 20 points. Marcus Sawyers scored 19, Ambrosio added 13, and Brendan Jones, Blake Smith and Brian Harper all scored 10. Nolan Whitener scored eight points with 11 rebounds and Jevon Patton handed out five assists.
 
Methodist is in action on Saturday at Ferrum beginning at 4 pm.
