FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Kimberly Schuh scored four points in the final 24 seconds to lift the Meredith women's basketball team to a 52-49 win over Methodist on Saturday afternoon at the Riddle Center.

Schuh's final four points gave her 22 on the day and completed a rally from 16 points down for the Avenging Angels (5-14, 5-6 USA South). The Monarchs (2-17, 2-8), who led by as many as 16 points in the third quarter and held an 11-point edge to begin the fourth missed their final three shots from the field and turned the ball over three times in the last minute.

Kayla Goldsmith led the Monarchs with 11 points and nine rebounds, and
Kaneya Chambers totaled 10 points.
Kadie Snipes scored eight points, and
Kodi Centry chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.

Methodist a 17-9 scoring advantage in the third quarter to turn a 22-19 lead at halftime, into a 39-28 lead entering the final period. Goldsmith scored the first two buckets for the Monarchs in the third and Snipes followed with back to back triples as MU pushed out to a 32-21 lead at the 6:58 mark.

Centry followed with a layup and three more points from Goldsmith made it 37-21 as the clock hit 4:20. The Avenging Angels began chipping away at their deficit and used a 7-2 spurt to close the period and get within 39-28.

Schuh opened the fourth quarter with a layup and added a three-point play with 8:35 to play that made the score 41-33 in favor of MU. Six straight free throws from MC, including four by Schuh, cut the Monarchs' lead to 46-41 with 4:51 on the clock.

A three-point play by Brittany Preston made it 46-44 before Goldsmith answered with a layup for a four-point lead with 3:26 to play. Methodist would get just one free throw the rest of the way and several turnovers down the stretch left the door open for the Avenging Angels to come back.

Methodist shot 38.8 percent from the floor to 32.7 percent for Meredith. The Avenging Angels held a 34-33 edge in rebounding and were 16 of 20 from the free throw line while MU was just 6 of 8.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they host William Peace at 2 pm.
