LEXINGTON, Ky. Kayla Goldsmith scored 17 points to pace Methodist Saturday afternoon at the Pat Deacon Classic, but she was the only Monarch to reach double figures during a 101-36 non-conference loss to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Goldsmith was 7-of-11 from the floor, but otherwise the Monarchs suffered through a difficult afternoon, finishing the loss to the Warhawks hitting just 24 percent (12-of-50) from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist missed a pair of early jumpers and turned the ball over twice during the opening minutes of the contest, allowing Whitewater to edge out to a 5-0 lead.
- Kaneya Chambers finally uncorked the lid covering the Methodist rim to end the drought, hitting a jumper from in close and getting the Monarchs on the scoreboard.
- A jumper from Goldsmith closed off another Warhawk spurt to nearly halve the Monarchs' deficit at 9-4.
- Whitewater answered with a 10-0 run over the next minute and a half, then added another 10-0 streak late in the opening quarter to push out to a 34-13 lead that dug a deep hole from which Methodist was going to have to climb.
- The second and third quarters were even more troublesome for the Monarchs as Whitewater iced the game in the middle two frames, outscoring Methodist by a count of 49-10.
- Rebounding and turnovers were areas in which the Warhawks dominated action. They finished with a 57-33 edge off the glass -- and converted 25 offensive rebounds into 29 second-chance points -- and forced 26 Methodist turnovers. Those miscues turned into 40 points for Whitewater.
