FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader with Messiah on Saturday morning. The Monarchs fell 8-1 in game one before falling 16-1 to the Falcons in game two.

In game one, Messiah scored in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead before putting up four runs in the top of the third frame. The Monarchs got one run back in the home half of the inning when
Morgan Faircloth drew a walk. Two batters later,
Searria Fisher doubled in
Olivia Rust, who ran for Faircloth.

The Falcons tallied another run in the fourth and in the seventh on its way to an 8-1 victory.

Fisher started in the circle for MU and threw 3.0 innings and scattered five hits with six runs (4 ER) allowed.
Jordyn Propst entered in relief and tossed 4.0 innings and yielded two runs on seven hits.

For the Falcons, Carrie Fix earned the win after throwing 6.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Kolakowski finished the game and did not allow a hit.

Fisher,
Chloe Hespeler and
Kristen Hamilton each recorded a hit, while Rust scored a run.

In game two, Messiah posted three runs in the first and plated five in the second before adding two more in the third. MU plated a runner in the fourth after Fisher doubled and moved to third on a throw and scored on a groundout by Hespeler. Messiah scored six runs in the fifth to claim the win.

Brittany Jones was strapped with the loss after yielding seven runs (4 ER) on eight hits in 1.2 innings. Four pitchers entered the circle for the Monarchs in the loss. Yannetti received the win after throwing four innings, scattering three hits and allowing one run.

Methodist is back in action tomorrow, Feb. 18, against Lynchburg beginning at 12:30 pm. The games will be played at Liberty University.
