LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Methodist softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Lynchburg on Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (2-0) prevailed 12-4 in five innings in the opener, and then defeated MU 11-1 in five innings in the nightcap. Methodist is now 1-7 on the season. The twinbill was played at Liberty's Softball facility due to weather and field concerns.

In the opener, a
Tyler Wells groundout in the top of the first inning spotted MU to a 1-0 lead as
Carleigh Haywood came home with the game's first run. The Hornets countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-1 lead. A single run in the second pushed LC's advantage to 5-1.

The Green & Gold pulled within 5-4 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, including a two-run single off the bat of Haywood, but LC answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 11-4, before scoring the clinching run in the bottom of the fifth.

Haywood finished 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI and one run.
Kristen Hamilton was 1 for 2 with a run scored, and
Reagan Parks was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Searria Fisher (0-3) took the loss in the circle. She started and allowed 11 runs (10 ER) on 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Jordyn Propst pitched the final 0.2 of an inning an gave up one run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Taylor Belknap picked up the win, surrendering four runs on four hits and four walks with one strikeout in 4.0 innings. Taylor Mabry was 3 for 3 with a home run, drove in four and scored three times.

In the second game, Conner English limited MU to one run on three hits in 4.0 innings. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter. The Hornets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before MU cut its deficit to 2-1 on
Sydney Kay's RBI single to center that plated
Chloe Hespeler, who had led off the inning with a single.

Three more runs from LC in the third coupled with six runs in the fourth put the score at 11-1.

Hespeler (0-1) took the loss for MU, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk in 3.0 innings. She finished 1 for 2 at the plate with the lone run scored. Kay was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Leslie Bourgeois led LC going 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Brittany Coffey was 2 for 2 with two RBI and a run scored.

MU is at Guilford on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 pm.
