Methodist Women's Lacrosse Falls to Kenyon, 20-5

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team fell, 20-5, to Kenyon on Sunday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
 
The Ladies (5-2) raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first half, fueled by four points from Lucy Somers and three points from Avery Morgan, who fed Cassie Hudson-Heck at the 13:48 mark for the 10-goal lead.
 
The Monarchs (4-3) closed out the first half scoring four of the final five goals to pull within 11-4 at halftime. Kaelyn Holland got MU on the board off a feed from Madison Ronelli with 5:59 left in the first half. After another goal from Somers at 4:20, Sarah Ewin scored the first of her two goals with 2:30 on the clock, and Ronelli added a goal 12 seconds later to make it 11-3.
 
Ewin closed out the first half, taking a pass from Sydney Bonner right on the crease and beating Kenyon's Allie Dumas to make it 11-4 at recess.
 
The Methodist rally was short lived; however, as the Ladies opened a sizeable advantage in the second half - scoring the first six goals of the period to open a 17-4 lead. Ronelli scored MU's final goal with 12:54 on the clock and Kenyon closed out the contest with three more tallies.
 
Kenyon out shot MU, 40-24, including 31-14 in shots on goal. Dumas made nine saves for the Ladies, while Molly O'Hara made 11 saves for the Monarchs.
 
Ronelli finished with three points on two goals and one assist to go with six draw controls, three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Monti Hendrix also had six draw controls and added a pair of ground balls. Sam Short and Liz Rougcher each had a pair of caused turnovers.
 
Somers led Kenyon with eight points on five goals and three assists. Morgan finished with five goals and two assists, and Maggie Grabowksi scored twice, picked up seven draw controls, caused three turnovers and had six ground balls.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday at Meredith beginning at 6 pm.
