Men's Lacrosse Dumps Greensboro, 10-7

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A 5-0 run to close the third quarter and open the fourth propelled the Methodist men's lacrosse team to a 10-7 win at Greensboro on Wednesday afternoon.

The Monarchs (3-5, 1-1 USA South) used the 5-0 run to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 9-5 lead with 11 minutes left in the contest. Greensboro slipped to 7-5 on the season and 2-2 in the conference.

Michael Bradley, who led MU with three goals on the day, scored two of the Monarchs' first three goals and helped the Green and Gold take a 3-2 lead into the break. The Pride opened the second half with three straight tallies, including the final two just 14 seconds apart, and suring ahead 5-4 with 8:24 left in the third quarter.

Connor Glenn tied the game at 5-5 with an unassisted goal at the 6:39 mark. The Monarchs took the lead for good when they capitalized on a key mistake from the Pride. Following a penalty on Luke Van der Muelen that left MU a man down, the Pride turned the ball over to the Monarchs with roughly 30 seconds still on the penalty. A shot by Matt Layden was saved by Stephen Tanner, but Layden managed to secure the ground ball, and just as the penalty was ending, AJ Mejia scored an unassisted goal to make it 6-5 with 5:08 showing.

Layden made it 7-5 with 2:13 left in the quarter, and Bryce Kephart opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a man-up goal at the 12:41 mark for an 8-5 lead. With 11:00 to play, Mejia tallied his second goal of the game as MU pushed its lead to four goals (9-5).

The Pride scored twice in the next 25 seconds to make it 9-7 with 10:35 to play, but Ian Mastriani, who scored the first goal of the game, capped the day's scoring when he beat Tanner after taking a feed from Cade Crews.

Methodist held a 40-20 edge in shots, including 25-12 in shots on goal. The Pride won 13 of 22 faceoffs and picked up 40 ground balls to 32 for the Monarchs, but Methodist forced 22 turnovers while committing just 13.
