Methodist Splits DH at Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team split a doubleheader with Meredith on Sunday afternoon at the Meredith Softball Complex.

The Monarchs won game one 3-2 despite recording just one hit, then fell 9-0 in five innings in the nightcap.

In the opener Jordyn Propst (1-1) picked up her first win of the season by limiting the Avenging Angels to two runs on seven hits and a walk in 7.0 innings. The Monarchs rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three unearned runs in the sixth to pick up the win.

With one out in the sixth inning, Searria Fisher reached on an error by Meredith's third baseman, then moved to third on an error that allowed Reagan Parks to reach safely. Chloe Hespeler followed with a groundball to short that resulted in the third straight Meredith error and plated Fisher to make it 2-1.

Aly Thomas then laced a single to left, the Monarchs' first and only hit of the game, that brought home Parks and tied the game at 2-2. After a popout by Propst, Kelsey Smith reach on yet another error that allowed Hespeler to come home with the go-ahead run.

Propst then retired the Meredith side in order to seal the win.

In game two, the Avenging Angels broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, before piling on seven more in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory. Fisher was 2 for 3 for the Monarchs and also took the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on 10 hits and a walk with one strikeout in 4.0 innings of work.

Myah Morse picked up the win (3-3), limiting MU to four hits and three walks in 5.0 innings.

The Monarchs are slated to host Randolph-Macon in doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2 pm.
