MU Women's Lax Falls to Bridgewater State, 17-13

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. -- Bridgewater State used a 6-0 scoring run in the second half to come from behind and defeat the Methodist women's lacrosse team, 17-13, in Dever Park on Tuesday morning.
 
The Monarchs (4-2) jumped ahead early after three consecutive goals to start the contest. Monti Hendrix scored first at the 25:38 mark before Madison Ronelli beat the goalie 22 seconds later, 2-0. Sydney Bonner tallied a free position goal with 22:32 left in the period to push the score to 3-0.
 
Victoria McDonough put the Bears (2-1) on the board with a goal with 22:13 showing on the clock. Sarah Ewin scored at 21:07 to start a string of four-straight goals by MU as the Monarchs led 7-1 midway through the first half.
 
The two sides traded goals before Bridgewater State cut the lead down to 8-6 with 4:22 remaining in the half after a 4-0 scoring run across four and a half minutes. Bonner scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game in the last four minutes of the period to take a 10-9 into the recess.
 
Kaelyn Holland opened the second period with a goal off an assist from Hendrix before Ronelli tallied one more to put MU up 12-9 with 23:30 left in regulation.

The Bears mounted a 6-0 scoring run over a seven minute stretch as they took their first lead of the game, 15-12, with 12:39 on the clock. Methodist picked up one more score at the 12:01 mark to cut the deficit to a pair of goals, 15-13, but Bridgewater State added two more to reach the 17-13 final.
 
Bonner led the Monarchs in scoring with five goals – all in the first half. Ronelli added four points on three goals and an assist, as Sara Ewin and Hendrix each added two goals and Hendrix also pitched in two helpers. Ronelli picked up three ground balls, while Hendrix had eight draw controls.
 
Molly O'Hara made six saves on 23 shots in the cage in all 60 minutes, while Hayley Barner stopped six shots in the win.
 
For the Bears, Elizabeth Ettridge finished with a game-high six goals, while McDonough tallied four points on three goals and one assist. Mackenzie Manning and Emily Hiller each finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Ettridge also had five draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Hiller finished with three caused turnovers, which was the most in the game.
 
Bridgewater State outshot the Monarchs, 27-22, while gaining more draw controls, 19-13. The Bears also scored six free-position goals in the contest.
 
Methodist returns to action on Sunday, March 11, against Kenyon at Monarch Stadium beginning at 12 pm.
