GREENSBORO, N.C. A strong third set halved Methodist volleyball's deficit Wednesday evening at Guilford College, but the Quakers would stage a mid-fourth-set rally to build a cushion that eventually allowed the home team to hold off the visiting Monarchs by a score of 3-1 in non-conference action at the Ragan-Brown Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading 2-1 in the match but trailing 11-10 in the fourth set, Guilford reeled off an 8-0 run to take command of what became the deciding set.
- Though the Quakers won the first two sets, Methodist could also have been the team with the two-set advantage. The largest lead by either team in the opening set was three points and it was tied as late as 20-20. The second set followed a similar pattern until Guilford extended a narrow 14-12 lead into a five-point margin.
- Methodist came out like gang busters in the third set, though. Brittany Ter Meer registered the opening point of the set with a kill, then served the Monarchs to a 7-0 lead. Methodist never trailed and won the set by six points.
- Ter Meer finished the night with 14 kills, 3 service aces and a pair of block assists to accumulate a team-high 18.0 points
- Lili Henry set up the Monarch attack with 33 set assists, while chiming in with 2 kills and adding 10 digs to the team's defensive efforts.
- Megan Andrews posted team-high honors in digs, coming up with 15 on the night.
- Jasmine Tapscott had a strong night at the net, putting down six kills and racking up two solo blocks and two block assists.
BEYOND THE STATS
- Though Guilford owned the series lead, 15-11, over Methodist, it was the Monarchs that entered Wednesday's game on a three-game win streak over the Quakers.
QUAKER NOATS
- After opening the season with a pair of victories, Guilford had dropped its past two matches.
- Christian Ritter leads the team with 64 kills, 16 of which came in the match against the Monarchs.
