BEREA, Ky. The Monarchs made quick work of host Berea College in Sunday's USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader, finishing off an 18-3 seven-inning victory in Game 1, and an 11-2 win in the second game.
In the opener -- a continuation of what was originally the second game of a scheduled Saturday twin bill, halted in the middle of the top half of the second inning by rain -- the Monarchs set a new season high with 18 runs scored in only seven innings. Methodist also tied its season high with seven extra base hits, including a whopping four triples.
It was a great day all around for the Monarchs. Their offense tallied 27 hits in the two games combined and their pitching was just as outstanding.
Tyler Brown had 11 strikeouts in Game 2, the most in a game by a Monarch since 2015, and
Matthias Carter was outstanding at the plate with a total of six hits, two triples, and a double in the two games.
