HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four hits, four walks, and two wild pitches resulted in a 6-0 score for the Monarchs. Bethany Junker was first to score on a wild pitch and Jordyn Propst earned the first RBI with a single. Best completed the inning with a two-RBI single.
- The Spirits immediately cut the deficit to 6-3 with a three-RBI double from Brianne Coleman.
- In the second inning, each team scored two runs. It happened the same way for both teams. An error at third base led to the unearned runs.
- The Monarchs added insurance in the fifth, taking a 10-6 lead. Best doubled and scored one and Kelsey Smith's fielder choice scored Carleigh Haywood for the season-high 10th run.
- Game 1 featured only three Methodist hits and two Salem hits. Miranda Barker (seven innings, three hits and two walks allowed) just barely outdueled Brittany Jones (six innings, two hits, three walks, and one earned run allowed).
- Two of the Spirits' three runs came as a result off of a sacrifice fly and the other run was unearned from an error. The three Monarch errors worked against Methodist as the first two Salem scores were unearned.
