Monarchs advance with (late) big numbers

LAGRANGE, Ga.  Methodist baseball scored eight runs in the last three innings to rally from a 4-0 deficit and defeat Maryville (Tenn.) College, 8-6, on the first day of the USA South Athletic Conference tournament Thursday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.

Maryville seized momentum early, scoring four runs in the first inning and Jordan Davis was nearly unhittable through the first five innings, giving up only three hits, two of them infield singles.

The Monarchs finally got on the board with a three-run sixth inning and Alex Kachler's two-RBI double in the seventh helped overtake the lead from the Scots.

Matthias Carter's steady performance helped lead Methodist to victory. He had two hits, two walks, and two stolen bases while Tyler Brown kept the Monarchs in the game, stringing together four consecutive scoreless innings after a rough start.
