HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the ninth, Braden Shealy hit a lead-off single as a pinch hitter. A sacrifice bunt moved Shealy to second and Cael Chatham scored Shealy for the tying run, forcing extra innings.
- LaGrange opened the top of the tenth with two straight singles. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third with no outs and Judd Moore delivered the winning hit over the first baseman's head for a two-RBI double.
- Down 5-2 in the eighth, LaGrange began their two-out rally, scoring two runs. A wild pitch and a walk meant runners on the corners for the Panthers. Trey Pearce singled to right center to score the first run in the inning. Will Walker entered with a save opportunity and gave up a RBI-single before forcing the third out, popup.
- In the bottom of the eighth and runners on second and third after two two-out singles, Methodist could not capitalize as shortstop Rhett Hollon made an acrobatic stab and threw Clay Richardson out at first.
- The Monarchs took a 5-2 advantage in the bottom of third. Two Monarch singles, two Panthers errors, three runs all unearned. That was an early theme as two Methodist errors and two LaGrange singles gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Then, in the bottom of the first, the Monarchs could not capitalize on bases loaded with one out.
