FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. In the first overtime game for Methodist women's lacrosse since 2009, the Monarchs were unable to hold off visiting William Peace University, 21-20, in USA South Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening.
With six seconds left in regulation,
Monti Hendrix tied the game at 20-20 with an incredible goal to force overtime. Nonetheless, it was the Pacers' Shania Springer that won the game with the goal in sudden death.
William Peace had taken a 19-18 lead with under eight minutes remaining after trailing earlier in the second half, 17-11.
The dynamic duo of Hendrix and
Sarah Ewin were downright sensational as both players set new career-highs. Ewin finished with seven goals and ten points, both a new career-mark and Methodist season-high, while Hendrix reached a new ceiling with six goals and did so in only seven shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- However, the game-defining run belongs to the Pacers. William Peace's 8-1 run over a span of almost 12 minutes gave the Pacers the lead. Dana Florian and Rylie Toomey were responsible for seven of the eight goals in that string.
- After Lindsay Brennan's shot hit the post and Ewin's shot went wide in the final 90 seconds, Hendrix finally provided the equalizer with six ticks left in regulation.
- Ewin had tied the game at 19-19 with 3:42 left on the clock but the Pacers won the draw control and Toomey broke the deadlock 18 seconds later.
- There were only two shots in the 4 minutes and 28 seconds of overtime before Springer found the back of the net for the win.
