FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's soccer was triumphant in its home opener at the Monarch SoccerPlex, defeating St. Andrews University, 4-0, Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
A scoreless game at halftime, Methodist dominated the second half with a 23-3 advantage in shots taken over the final 45 minutes. Freshman
Laura Harris got Methodist on the board in the 46th minute and
Miranda Gay scored goals in the 51st and 58th minutes to ice the game for the Monarchs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- One touch was all she needed as Harris took the pass from Cheyenne Ferrin and delivered a gorgeous strike into the top left corner for the Monarchs' first goal.
- Sierra Swasey's pass sliced through the defense and found an unmarked Gay to give Methodist a 2-0 lead, and seven minutes later, Gay took an assist from Haley Bowles to earn goal number two on the night.
- Kiley Way made good use of her time on the pitch. She subbed onto the field in the 68th minute and scored in the 77th, taking advantage of a Methodist corner kick.
STAT FACTS
- After one goal in 10 starts last season, Miranda Gay doubled that tonight with her two goals. She led the team with six shots taken and four on goal.
- Way already has two goals on the season after finishing last season without a score.
- It was a dull time in goal for keepers Maggie Hunt and Mary Newman. Hunt recorded the team's only two saves in her 73 minutes of action.
- In the Monarchs' two wins so far, Methodist has outshot their opponent 79-6.
- Methodist won its first home opener at Monarch SoccerPlex since 2015 when the Monarchs defeated St. Mary's (Md.) 1-0 in overtime.
- Katlin Locklear for St. Andrews had 14 saves against the four goals allowed.
