Women Run Win Streak To 3

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Traveling to Greensboro, N.C., to take on Guilford College, Methodist women's soccer emerged victorious with a 1-0, second half stunner against the Quakers in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

After being outshot 8-4 in the first half, the Monarchs flipped the script in the final frame, owning an 8-3 advantage in shots taken and taking home the elusive win when Bella Nunu rifled one into the far-left top bins on a wonderfully placed pass from Cheyenne Ferrin in the 47th minute.

It is an early three-game winning streak for the Monarchs, their longest since reeling off four consecutive victories in the 2017 USA South Tournament to hoist the championship.

THE ESSENTIALS
Final score: Methodist 1, Guilford 0
Records: Methodist 3-1, Guilford 1-3-1
Location: Armfield Athletic Center; Greensboro, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Awarded a second consecutive corner, Ferrin decided to pass the ball instead of sending the ball into the box. Almost instantly, Ferrin received the pass back and she was able to send it to an ill-guarded Nunu, who sent her shot singing into the top left corner.
The Quakers had a chance to force extra minutes late in the 85th minute as Karol James corralled a rebound and placed a shot into the bottom left corner, but goalkeeper Maggie Hunt earned the save to preserve the precarious lead.

STAT FACTS
The difference in the game was accuracy. The Monarchs were able to put eight of their 12 shots on target compared to just three of Guilford's 11.
Laura Harris led Methodist with four shots taken and three on frame.
In goal for Guilford was Brianna Garcia, who recorded seven saves against the one allowed goal.
