Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Offense Spread Across Roster in Loss at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Methodist saw nine different players score at least four points Saturday at Greensboro College, but the spread of points across the roster wasn't enough to topple the host Pride who earned a USA South Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over the Monarchs, 71-49.

Though Methodist showed a depth of attack Saturday, no player scored more than Kadie Snipes' eight points, while Greensboro pushed three players into double figures, led by Katie Lewis' game-high 22 points.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Greensboro def. Methodist, 71-49
Records: Methodist 2-10, (1-3 USA South), Greensboro 6-3 (3-0)
Location: Hanes Gymnasium; Greensboro, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A competitive opening quarter saw the Monarchs carve away at an early Pride advantage and take a 12-11 lead on a Trinity Ross jumper.
  • Greensboro responded with consecutive jumpers to jump back in front, 15-12, but a Katlin Kendrick layup at the 2:05 mark brought Methodist back to within a point.
  • The game turned after Kendricks' basket, though, as the Monarchs would not score again until the 3:45 mark of the second quarter -- an 8 minute, 4 second drought.
  • A Snipes 3-pointer from the right wing ended the scoreless string, but by then the Pride had netted 15 unanswered points.
  • The 20-9 second-quarter totals allowed Greensboro to take a 41-23 advantage into the halftime break, and though in the second half the Monarchs kept pace (30-26), the more than eight-minute draught spanning the end of the first quarter and through most of the second, was too much to overcome.

DATA POINTS
  • Snipes' eight points led Methodist, with Destiny Hardin's seven-point afternoon coming in just behind the outside shooter's total.
  • Jazanae Billings, with six points, was next, followed by Kendrick and Tyzarea Alexander with five points apiece, and then three others with four points each.
  • Hardin led all players off the glass with 10 rebounds, her third outing reaching double-digits this season. Hardin also topped all players Saturday with three blocked shots.
  • Though Hardin won the rebounding battle individually, Greensboro won the war with a 52-38 edge overall. However, the Monarchs only allowed nine second-chance points by the Pride, despite the rebounding disparity.
  • Methodist enjoyed a stellar outing from the free throw line, sinking 10-of-13 in the loss.
  • Turnovers hurt the Monarchs for much of the afternoon as Greensboro was able to turn 34 Methodist miscues into 29 points.

UP NEXT
  • Conference play continues for the Monarchs who host Pfeiffer University Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a league matchup at the Riddle Center.
  • Greensboro hosts Salem College on Wednesday in a USA South contest.
