3/25/2020 12:48:00 PM

SIGNATURE WIN: In the third game of their USA South Athletic Conference slate, the Monarchs recorded their first league win with a 63-52 victory over Salem College in the Riddle Center. In that contest, Methodist strung together its best two quarters of basketball when the Monarchs outscored the Spirits, 43-28, in the second and third periods after closing out the opening period trailing 12-8. The final basket before the halftime buzzer -- a layup from Zytipha Joines gave the Monarchs a lead (32-30) they would never relinquish. It was Destiny Hardin that setup that score with a block and a rebound on the defensive end prior. Hardin scored a career-high 21 points and her five blocks tied a career-high. She was a rebound shy of her second career double-double. Speaking of double-doubles, Tyzarea Alexander recorded her third career double-double in six games as she finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Joines was third on the team with 11 points and Kadie Snipes and Trinity Ross each snagged eight rebounds in the win. Methodist outrebounded Salem, 57-45, including a 28-12 differential in offensive rebounds. The 57 boards were a season-high for Methodist.

SEASON NOTES: The Monarchs finished with a 3-22 overall record and a 2-14 record in conference play … There were five losses decided by five or fewer points … Alexander led the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game, followed by Snipes averaging 9.4 … Alexander's 7.2 rebounds per game were also a team high … Hardin led the team with 2.3 blocks per game and she also averaged 6.4 rebounds (second on the team) and 6.9 points (third) per game … Snipes was tied for third in the conference with 59 made threes … Snipes tied the program record with six made 3-pointers against Pfeiffer in January … Snipes is the new program leader in most treys attempted in a season with 201, surpassing the previous high of 195 ...  the 77 points Methodist scored against Pfeiffer in February were the most by the Monarchs since December of 2017-18.

POSTSEASON NOTES:
USA South All-Sportsmanship Team: Emily Ricks

LOOKING AHEAD: The 2019-20 roster will not lose a single player to graduation. Figuring that everyone returns, the 2020-21 roster will feature five seniors -- Snipes, Alexander, Katlin Kendrick, Tay Hamilton, and the hopeful return of Kayla Goldsmith, who missed all of last season with an injury. That would be the most returners for Methodist since the 2012-13 season when the Monarchs went 16-10 with a roster comprised of six seniors and one junior. This squad next year will be even more seasoned than 2012-13 as Head Coach Cheryl McNair expects to have an experience-laden team that features 10 upperclassmen. Add in Joines, a rising sophomore who flashed unique talent and the future is now for McNair and Methodist.
