Monarchs Run Win Streak to 4

WASHINGTON, Pa.  Methodist closed out a two-night northern road trip Thursday evening with a 15-8 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over host Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College.

The win piggybacks on Wednesday's 21-9 triumph in Cincinnati over Mount St. Joseph University, and stretched the Monarchs' current win streak to four.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Washington & Jefferson, 15-8
Records: Methodist 5-3, W&J 1-4
Location: Alexandre Stadium; Washington, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs shot out of the box quickly against the President's, scoring the opening two goals and answering a W&J goal with two more for a 4-1 advantage before five minutes had elapsed.
  • W&J came back to tie the game at 4-4, but Methodist scored six of the next seven goals to take control of the contest.
  • The opening salvo began with Matt Pemberton's 18th goal of the season, followed soon after by a score from Carter Favreau. Pemberton answered the W&J goal to make the score 3-1, and Connor Glenn made it 4-1, cashing in on an assist from Bryce Kephart.
  • Other than W&J's first quarter three-goal splurge, the Monarchs never allowed consecutive President's goals the rest of the way.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Chatt, with three goals and two assists, was one of three Monarchs to record a five-point night, joined by Kephart (3G, 1A) and Glenn (1G, 4A).
  • Favreau and Pemberton finished with identical numbers -- 3 goals and 1 assist.
  • Faceoff specialist Nick Lemieux was 11-for-22 on the night and tied Chatt as the team leader in ground-ball pickups with 5.
  • Clay Stevenson had a solid night in goal for the Monarchs, coming up with 16 saves.
  • W&J was picked to finish fifth in the President's Athletic Conference men's lacrosse preseason poll.
