Teachey goal earns Methodist a draw

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist men's soccer forced a 2-2 draw against Greensboro College, in a USA South Athletic Conference contest Sunday night at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

This was the Monarchs first non-loss to the Pride since October 1, 2016, snapping a six game losing streak.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist tied Greensboro, 2-2
Records: Methodist 2-7-2 (0-2-1 USA South), Greensboro 6-6-1 (2-0-1)
Location: Duggins Soccer Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the match still in the early stages, Greensboro registered the first goal, in the fourth minute.
  • As the midway point drew near, Methodist scored the equalizer, in the 33rd minute. Hudson Zeisman dribbled the ball up the field to the edge of the penalty box. On an attempted cross by Zeisman, a Pride defender tried to intercept the cross, but instead deflected off his leg and into the net.
  • Greensboro wasted no time to start the second half. It would only take six seconds for them to regain the advantage.
  • Charlie Teachey of the Monarchs would tie the game up again with his goal, in the 74th minute. With the ball bouncing back and forth in the midfield, Teachey managed to settle the ball, and then turned and shoot the ball past the keeper, from 20 yards out.
  • After neither side recorded any shots in the first overtime period, each side just nearly missed ending the match in the second overtime. The Monarchs had two chances that were saved within 15 seconds of each other, with a header by Caleb Allen and a shot by Zeisman. Three minutes later, the Pride had a shot the just went wide of the far post.
NUMBERS
  • Greensboro showed their aggressiveness in the match by piling up 21 fouls and seven yellow cards.
  • Though the Pride narrowly had more shots than Methodist, 12-11, both sides finished the contest with six shots on goal.
  • Monarch's keeper Cole Hupp and the Greensboro goalie each had four saves.
