BUNEA VISTA, Va. In the first-ever meeting, Methodist women's soccer claims a 2-0 USA South Athletic Conference win over Southern Virginia University Friday night at Knight Stadium.
The victory tonight gives the Monarchs their second consecutive and fourth overall shutout of the season. Methodist's defense and goalkeepers have been stellar this season, as they have only allowed three goals in conference, to this point.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Laura Harris made her presence on the pitch. After stealing the ball from 40 yards out, Harris ran past three Knight defenders before shooting the ball past the keepers left into the net, from 15 yards away, in the second minute.
- In the 22nd minute, the Monarchs received a free kick off a Southern Virginia foul. Alyssa Morrell took the free kick and sent a high arching kick into the penalty box from 30 yards out.
- The first person to touch the ball after that was Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber, who headed the ball into the goal for the second Methodist score.
- The Knights had multiple chances to get back into the match. They outshot the Monarchs in both total shots (10 to 5) and shots on goal (5 to 3).
NUMBERS
- Methodist's goalie duo finished with more saves (5) in the match than Southern Virginia's goalie duo (1).
- Harris and Lourenco-Shiber were the only two Monarchs to take shots in the game.
