Burch's late heroic goal gives Methodist the victory

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist women's soccer stays unbeaten in USA South Atlantic Conference action with a 1-0 victory over visiting William Peace University under the lights Sunday night at Duggins Soccer Stadium.
 
The Monarchs eight game winning streak is currently the longest streak since the 2008 season, when that team also had an eight game win streak and finished 11-8-1. Methodist also holds a current 22 game win streak against the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half saw the Monarchs controlling the ball in the attacking third. This is indicated by the number of corner kicks they took in the half, six.
  • While on the attack, Methodist generated seven shots with two being on target. Two team saves by William Peace's backline prevented the Monarchs from scoring.
  • The Pacers defense kept strong by stopping and clearing multiple Methodist attack. Though late in the second half the Monarchs would finally break through.
  • Methodist had a corner kick opportunity in 82 minute, Macie Szalach taking the kick. Szalach sent a mid-line shot toward the front of the net, where Baylor Burch was able to flick a header into the top right corner for the goal.
NUMBERS
  • Though the Monarchs dominated in total shots, 17 to four, over William Peace, Methodist only recorded three more shots on goal (six to three) compared to the Pacers.
  • Both Mary Newman of the Monarchs and Abigail Mosteller of William Peace each finished with three saves.
